Why LEP Voices Must Lead the Language Access Movement

True language access begins by centering the Limited English Proficient (LEP) community — the individuals for whom these services exist. Their voices must lead every step of the movement.

As we continue advocating for language access, it’s key to remember that the heart of this work must always be the end user; the limited English proficient (LEP) individual. It’s not about the linguists, the organizations, or the industry. Without the LEP community, there would be no l anguage access to protect. They are the reason this work matters and they must remain at the center of every effort.
